Parsing artist name, album, song info

Postby joejoe100 » 06 May 2012, 18:31

There doesn't seem to be any way to control how Jaangle parses the song information when a collection is created.

I am running Windows OS.

I organize my music in genre folders with sub-folders for each individual CD/Album.

Each sub-folder in a genre category is named with the artist name followed by a dash character (-) and then the CD/Album name.

Inside of a sub-folder, each SONG has the artist name, CD/Album name, track number and song name.

Now given the above, Jaangle makes a real mess out of parsing the music! Jaangle seems to want to organize by CD/Album name. Sometimes it seems able to identify the CD/ALbum name and get the songs listed correctly underneath. Other times, it fails at this task and then assigns the tile [unknown] and puts a lot of tracks under it (one unknown entry has 332 tracks under it!).

I would like to be able to make Jaangle follow my organization structure by listing by artist name and then CD/Album name with the songs under this construct. This control would have to be set when Collections are created, I would think.

Is there any hope for giving the user control over how CD/Album/Song information is parsed in Jaangle or would that be too sophisticated for the intended audience?

Try this.
Go to the [unknown] artist / album.
Select all the tracks in the track list. (click one and the CTRL+A)
Right click on the selected tracks / Advanced / Get tags from filename / Manually.
Figure it out.

Normal "Update Local Collections" (or "Update Quick") would not change them.

Normal "Update Local Collections" (or "Update Quick") checks only for new or deleted files.
"abnormal" update actions is when you go to the collections dialog right click on one of them and choose "Update". This re-read the file tags.

You can always use the Track list context menu / Advanced / Write tags
